The holidays have started and i better find something to do or else i’m just going to rot for the next 6 weeks.

Anyway my lecturer showed my one pretty cool program that allows you to create games, its called gamemaker. Go figure. Whats interesting about this program is that you don’t have to do programming and coding to get your game running, its like a simplified version of flash. Take a look at the tutorials and you will see how easy it is. Check out the games in progress too, there are stuff like SEGA sonic the hedgehog, mario, platformers, shooters and other stuff.

So i got bored for awhile today and decided to fire up my maya again to refresh the techniques i’ve learnt in school since i’m hoping to further my studies somewhere along this line. Decided to model a Sig Sauer but only had one angle to model it from and well i just whacked, trying around different materials to get the matt finish but failed. Left out alot of details cause i was lazy. Total time: 2 hours. The first picture is the original whereas the second is just a brighter version. Thats all for now, hopefully will update a little more regularly since its the hols and all.

Hacking my ipod

Anime Ipod?

Today i felt like challenging myself by trying to hack my ipod once again. This time they have background changes and icon menus! Last time, i could only just change the graphics. It was pretty fun at first, then it became frustrating, then i felt like throwing my ipod out of the window. However, i endured it and after about 30 trial and errors i got what i wanted:

Ipod 2Ipod 1

A windows vista theme on a ipod. The irony.

School is pretty fine at the moment, smooth sailing so far i guess, completed 2 modules already and now i’m wondering how much i scored for the common test. Heck, might as well post my 3d car model here.

Maybe i will post in another month again.

Lectures.

A really different environment from my previous secondary school life, no more crappy small non-air conditioned rooms (except for tutorials which is like my previous maths tuition classroom which is also ironically my maths tutorial lesson), no more cheapass damaged chairs and scratched desks, no more teacher’s ugly handwriting on the whiteboard and so on. Sucks.

The environment during lectures is pretty bad if you ask me, i personally don’t really like it due to the large space with many other classes besides my own attending the lesson. Especially maths lectures, half the people in the lecture isn’t paying attending and doing other stuff such as playing games on their laptops, PSPing away or playing with their handphones.

Then again welcome to Poly Life. With all this distractions around, its pretty hard for me not to shift my focus off to something else instead of the teacher’s teachings. Thus, never sit way back unless you watch 6 different anime shows on various screens. Sitting in front isn’t very good either since the stupid presentation slides are pretty high up unless you want to get some repositioning of your neck so as to watch out for anything falling from the sky above you.

I guess best is to just sit somewhere near the middle which is what i’m currently doing. The seats in the lectures aren’t particularly good either since its pretty cramped and the ‘desk’ is so frigging small i swear they put it there just for decoration.

I guess i still love my secondary school days.

Clannad

Still playing this game even after 3 months! (Will post more on it another time)

Well i’ve already been schooling for about 3 weeks now, and i have loads of homework and assignments going on currently. 3D modeling, maths test next week, 4 page write up and a question due next Tuesday, so on and so forth. But of course i still find time for pleasure like my music and watching animes and other assorted stuff i take interest in. Besides school nothing much is really happening.

Had a jamming session today from 2 – 5 as usual just to have some fun and make music, might considering trying out for the Olando’s gig right glen, laurent, aloy?

Oh yeah i bought an Acer 5685WLMi instead of the Fujitsu E8120 (Ran out of stock) but it rocks anyway. Love the 2 gig RAM in it, now i can go on my gaming marathon spree!

Spitz Band

Another J-Rock band that i recently went on a listening spree. Can’t wait for their new album coming out later next month! A little background about them, formed in 1987 but only released an album in 1991 the same year when the pillows released their first album as well what a coincidence. 4 member band and i really admire the bassist, seriously skilled with his techniques. The mellow voice of the singer really rocks and guitar solos with different types of overdrives that i really like. Drums are great with a variety of rhythms going on. Enough with the words on with the music. Here are 2 songs which i recommend that are on Youtube check it out!

Going to book tickets for the PLAY! a Video Game Symphony thats going down on the 15th or 16th of June 07. I’ve always loved video game music especially orchestra pieces. One of my dreams is to create music for games as well but more guitar related rather than a whole orchestra, maybe one in the back for support?

Read more about the concert here.

Man i got too much backlog of games, videos and music to finish. And poly is starting got to manage my time really well this time around.

The Pillows

Recently started listening to them again even after the FLCL craze awhile back. Wish i had all their albums (15 of them i think) but i only got 5 of them (And 3 live DVDs).

A little more about them; They are a J-Rock Group made up of 3 members (rhythm & vocal, lead guitarist and drums) wheres the bass? Well out of respect of the founding members they didn’t include the bassist (being a bassist myself thats pretty sad haha!) Been around since 1989 a year before i was born. Their style of music to me is what i would call Laid-Back Rock. Anyway you can read more at Wikipedia. A new album is coming out in April i think, can’t wait for it!

I’m currently learning how to play the basslines for Funny Bunny, Sayonara Universe and The Third Eye. Great songs.

C’mon Laurent! At least learn Funny Bunny please?

Fujitsu E8120

Starting poly on the 16th of April in Nanyang under this course. Its about game programming and digtal visual effects but i would have to specialise in either one of them at the start of year 2. I will probably go for games programming since my drawing isn’t too good.

Looks like i have to spend some money to get a new laptop for the course. Probably a fujitsu E8120 with upgrades (2 gig RAM, 2.0hz Dual core processor 4MB Cache, 120 gigs of space and so on) after checking out SP’s recommendation for laptop specifications for their own game programming course. Sweet.
